Area Guide: Bradshaw Gardens, Honley
Bradshaw Gardens features two and three bedroom new homes built in natural Yorkshire stone. Transport links
- Honley station is within walking distance of Bradshaw Gardens. The train journey to Huddersfield is just 11 minutes, Leeds is 44 minutes away and it takes an hour to get to Sheffield.
- While Honley is in a peaceful rural location, it is only six miles from the M62 and drivers can easily commute to a number of major towns and cities, including Huddersfield (10 minutes), Leeds (35 minutes), Sheffield (40 minutes) and Manchester (45 minutes).
- The closest airport is Leeds Bradford International (25 miles), while Manchester Airport (35 miles) and Robin Hood Airport (39 miles) are also easily reached from Honley.
Nearest secondary school
Honley High School is within walking distance of Bradshaw Gardens. The school, which has around 1,200 students aged 11-16, is rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted. In 2012, 82% of students achieved five A*-C grades at GCSE.
Local primary schools
The village is home to Honley Church of England Voluntary Controlled Infant and Nursery School for 3-7-year-olds, which is rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, and Honley Church of England Voluntary Controlled Junior School for 7-11-year-olds.
There are a selection of other primary schools within two miles, including Brockholes Church of England Voluntary Controlled Junior and Infant School, Netherthong Primary School and Newsome Junior School.
Nurseries
There are a number of nurseries in the village, including Bryan Croft Nursery, Piglets Day Care and Honley Day Care and Pre-Prep School.
Healthcare
Honley has a seven-doctor GP practice, Honley Surgery, and the nearest accident and emergency department is located less than four miles away at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
The village has Honley Dental Practice, while there are also a number of other dentists within a three-mile radius.
Entertainment and dining out
Honley is a quiet village, but it boasts two good restaurants in the form of Mustard & Punch and The Lemon Tree Trattoria. The nearby towns of Holmfirth and Meltham also have a selection of excellent pubs and restaurants.
Leeds and Sheffield both have a wide variety of galleries, theatres and live music venues, but there are some cultural attractions closer to Honley. Huddersfield has an Odeon cinema and the Lawrence Batley Theatre, while Holmfirth is home to the Picturedrome live music venue.
Sports clubs and activities
The village is home to junior and senior football clubs, Honley Cricket Club and the Phoenix squash club and gym, while there are tennis and rugby clubs in neighbouring villages. The nearest professional sports teams are Huddersfield Town and Huddersfield Giants.
The local area also has some great attractions for families, including Kirklees Light Railway, Cannon Hall Farm, Eureka! The National Children's Museum and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
