Area Guide: School Lane, Kirkheaton
Although only a relatively small village, Kirkheaton offers everything you require from your local area,including: a primary school, doctors surgery, dental practice, church and, of course, a selection of pubs.
Local Area
The new homes are located on School Lane in the village of Kirkheaton, which is just 3 miles North East of Huddersfield. It is the home to a number of businesses but mainly serves as a residential village for commuters to the surrounding towns.
People first began settling in the area of Kirkheaton in around the ninth century. The Anglo Saxon township of Heaton is recorded in the Domesday Book and was probably named after the De Heton family who lived in present day Upper Heaton.

The nearest train station to Kirkheaton is Deighton which is approx. 3 miles away. The train journey time to Huddersfield is only 5mins where you can travel to just about anywhere such as Manchester, which is approx 36 mins away and Leeds is 20mins away.
There is also a bus route on School Lane (no.262) which will take you into Huddersfield town centre.
Driving times are relatively short too with Huddersfield - 10 mins, Leeds - 27 mins, Sheffield 52 mins and Manchester - 58 mins
The closest airport is Leeds Bradford International (19 miles), while Manchester Airport (45 miles) and Robin Hood Airport (45 miles)
Nearest secondary school
The closest secondary school to the development is Netherhall High School which is just 1.4 miles away, this is campus of 4 schools covering a full range of abilities from 3 - 19 years and has a ‘Good’ Ofsted report.
Primary schools
Kirkheaton has its own primary school Kirkheaton Primary School which is approx 1 mile away.
Nurseries
There are a number of nurseries in the local area, including Happy Days Nursery, Dalton Junior, Infant & Nursery School and Netherhall St James Infant & Nursery School.
Healthcare
Kirkheaton has its own doctor's surgery with a professional healthcare team approx 2 mins drive away. The nearest dental practice is Grayes Dental Practice which is approx 3 mins drive away in the area of Waterloo.
Entertainment and dining out
The village of Kirkheaton has its own selection of pubs including: the Beaumont Arms and Blacksmiths Arms and is only 10 mins drive from the centre of Huddersfield, which has a large selection of bars and restaurants and there’s the Odeon cinema and the Lawrence Batley Theatre.
There are also some fun family attractions within a short drive, such as Eureka! The National Children's Museum, Greenhead Park, Kirklees Light Railway, Cannon Hall Farm and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
